Description:
This programme is part of the Government’s approach to tackling child obesity by annually measuring the height and weight of children in reception (aged 4–5 years) and year 6 (aged 10–11 years) in mainstream state-maintained schools in England.

Purpose:
Local Authorities in England measure children in mainstream state-maintained
schools during the school (academic) year which starts in September and finishes
in July. The statistical reports contain analyses of Body Mass Index (BMI)
classification rates by age, sex and ethnicity as well as geographic analyses.
Note that data for the 2020/21 school year was reported at national and regional
level only due to COVID-19 disruptions to data collection.
